Shanty Days Street Fair

Page 1 of 2 August 13-14, 2011The Shanty Days Committee of the Algoma Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that they are taking applications for the annual Street Fair in conjunction with this year's Shanty Days Celebration of the Lake. The Street Fair is held on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. The Street Fair is located on a two-block closed-off portion of Fremont Street which connects the Main Grounds to the Arts & Crafts Show. Given its location, the Street Fair has excellent foot traffic. The Shanty Days Street Fair is designed to give vendors whose products do not fit the strict "handmade only" rule of the juried art show, an outlet for selling their wares to the huge crowds that Shanty Days draws each year. The Shanty Days attendance in recent years has been estimated at more than 20,000. Vendor spots on Fremont Street are 12 x 12 and the cost of this 2-day event is $80 per spot. Prices for additional spots are as follows:
Vendors must supply their own tables and display areas. Very limited "deep spaces" which allow a vehicle to be parked with your stand are available. THERE IS NO ELECTRICITY AVAILABLE FROM THIS SITE. The Algoma Police Department gives us permission to keep the street closed overnight from Saturday to Sunday. This allows vendors the option to leave canopies and tables set up, if you so desire. Please be aware that no special security is provided and the Street Fair is adjacent to the Main Grounds, so you may wish to be selective in what items you leave out overnight. Any vendors selling food products must have a valid license from the State of Wisconsin and must abide by the sales and packaging regulations of the Department of Health. A copy of the necessary license should accompany your vendor registration form for food or canned goods. Space at the Street Fair is limited and spots will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. A 50% deposit returned with your registration form will hold your spot. A confirmation e-mail will be sent out to acknowledge receipt of your check and your registration form. A representative of the Shanty Days Committee will be on Fremont Street on Saturday morning to facilitate a smooth set up. Set up may begin at 7 a.m. Barricades will go up at 6 a.m.
